Some Days Are Cooler Than Others: Yesterday I Wrote About Bubblebutts for Afropop Worldwide

I write part-time for Public Radio International’s Afropop Worldwide, which is a treat and a challenge and generally kind of hilarious. Where else can you both make a bet on whether or not the new Femi Kuti record is worth a listen and get into a knock-down drag-out fight over the top ten best Beatles covers, you know?

Where else do nerdy little white boys like me get to write about videos like Major Lazer’s “Bubblebutt”?

This content was originally posted at www.Afropop.org, so head over there and show us some love so our Google Analytics will shine bright like a diamond, you know?

The video for Major Lazer’s “Keep It Going Louder” was the first indicator that Major Lazor + Eric Wareheim = Seriously Awesome, but with the release of the new Wareheim directed video for “Bubblebutt” (which features 2 Chainz, Tyga, Mystic and, of all people, Bruno Mars), it’s pretty safe to call it a rule.  The video is hilarious, salacious, and damn on point- we’ve partied in a lot of apartments like the one at the beginning of this video, and have often wished that Major Lazer would show up and get things popping like only Diplo can. For fans of: banging beats, crazy booty, & oddity of the highest caliber.

Is this track great? That’s debatable. Is it on par with the best of Major Lazer’s work? No. But it’s fun as all get out, body movin, and, er… provocative. Turn it up loud and have a good Wednesday.

It was perhaps one of the greatest pleasures of my life to be post a link to this story on facebook yesterday with the status, “My personal and professional passions finally coincide”. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how the Nation Endowment for the Humanities reacts to the post…
